Hello friends. It’s a year since we (Rick, Rotem, Huw, Danny and I) set up camp in this church you can see here to record what we hoped would become my debut album, but didn’t know anything for sure. We brought in microphones borrowed from friends (Thank you Ged, Luke, Sam), soundproof walls (they’re called Baffles) built by my Dad and various bits of gear we could get our hands on. We spent 5 days laying down piano, bass, drums, guitar and eating a lot of lasagna. It became a space for experimenting and learning, making a lot of mistakes as we went, but always with love and excitement. There were cartwheels of joy and sleepy naps too.
Over the course of the year since then, in between five jobs and with the help of a lot of talented musicians (Chelsea Carmichael, Flora Curzon, Meg Ella to name a few) we’ve added the strings, brass, vocals and a few other layers of goodness to those foundations, and today, finally, it’s being mastered in South London by Noel Summerville. I’m very very grateful to Rick and Rotem in particular. Making this album has made me a better musician and more than anything taught me the miracle of collaboration. Find good people who like the things you like, and make things with them. Magic things will happen.
More news soon.
